Terms used in media-

Texts- any media product (magazine, film ect.)

Niche- very specific 

Code and Conventions- a set of rules that build an expectation of what will appear in the text.

Connotations- associated meaning behind something.

Masthead- title.

Semiotics- the reading and understanding of signs( eg. a smiley face- happiness)

Puffs and Plugs- to entice the audience to buy the magazine.

Cover lines- A list of topics within the magazine.

A sign is made up of a signifier and the signified.
The signifier is an object- denotation and the signified is the idea/concept- connotation.

The front cover of a magazine is made up of many different elements such as...
-colour scheme
-image
-main story
-pull quote
-barcode
-issue number/date
-font colour and size
-left third(when its stacked, its the thing that draws the attention of the audience and stands out)
-cover lines
